Boo…

WARNING: The following is not a trick nor a treat, but it is scary

New systems are brewing in the HVAC world and we are sharing what we know.

As of 2025, new requirements for HVAC systems will be in effect. With big changes, come big costs so this is our friendly heads-up to do your research on these new system requirements. There is a mandatory certification training for all HVAC companies for these systems.

Some areas of concern involve issues with ductwork sizing and the sensors on the blower motor. These units need more airflow and if there’s not enough, they will shut down. These systems will be 454B propane based with rules and restriction on filling and clearing the system to be in compliance with EPA standards. The ductwork on the current HVAC systems will not be adequate for the new requirements. As for the cost, well, there could be an increase of up to 30% more than the current systems that most people have in their homes. This is mostly due to production costs.

For example, a 1,200 square foot home using a new 80% lower to mid range 410A system, costs roughly $13,000.00 - $14,000.00. The R32 and 454B systems will cost approximately $18,000.00 - $20,000.00. These numbers are not exact, but a projected range.

We hope this helps our customers get a head start on researching these new systems and we will follow up as we new learn more through our certification training. Please make sure that any HVAC company you choose to work with is certified and compliant with these new regulations before allowing them to provide services.

If you know your HVAC system will need to be replaced within the year, it may be worth investing in that upgrade before 2025 to take advantage of the lower costs of the currents systems available.
